Hi @Anonymous Have you checked your message setting numbers are correct?
http://www.o2.co.uk/help/phones-and-devices/text-message-settings
You may also need to check your sim is inserted properly. Take it out and re-insert...reboot the phone and try again..

It seems this may well be the problem then Rich...the op said they changed sim recently. I must get my memory bank back in gear...
