Well it's now 5.20pm on Saturday 21st September, and there is no sign of this yet?

Fair warning there are about 20 apps in the Google Play store all of which are fakes and at best will flood your phone with adverts.

Morning @Anonymous

Yes I read that lots of fake apps were put on google play which took IMO way too long to pull down.

Something like 100,000 downloads !

I'm not sure how Android users caused the issue as they were just wanting the software that should have been available on Saturday 21.9.13.

Blackberry caused this by providing a slow/non existent rollout.

Morning.

It wasn't the fakes that caused the issue (altho they will have caused issues for users with malware etc!) it was an official version which was leaked:

Agree that on the whole Blackberry messed this up, when people get a sniff of something new they want it yesterday, so Blackberry caused chaos and to be honest their servers should have been upto the demand.

Not good times for the company, this bad press was absolutely not what they needed!

I agree.

The app is not available in Apples App Store yet either.

Blackberry have not done themselves any favours.

It was available in a number of stores, then they pulled it due to the issues with the Android app.  Not sure why, guess they realised they forgot to add that extra capacity? lol

Out of curiosity had a look for the app last night and couldn't find it on play store. Can't believe 100,000 people thought that the search results that came up might be genuine!

It was over a MILLION people, not 100k....

A massive disadvantage with the Play Store is stuff like this.  I'd rather wait for Apps and have them quality controlled like iOS.

getting on for a week now, there is a nagging that the couple of blog posts that bb have made are just spin. as most may know bb have in principle agreed to a buyout by Fairfax (largest shareholder). now I'm led to believe that they were against the idea of bbm going cross-platform, so is this now a way of repealing bbm from the masses from being foc and making it paid for service for potential owners - money to be made from bb/bbm or just coincidence?

Very interesting theory and you could be onto something.

However, even though they were against it going x-platform, they now have to look at how much more damage to the brand it would do by pulling it completely after teasing it for months.

Tough call!

rumor has it that they may well pull back from the consumer side and concentrate on business - basically not renew contracts as they expire. if true that they may de-list the company off the market would allow them to easily do that with no shareholders to deal with as they've been bought out. if pure business is where they see the future then ok, but personally I think they may as well commit commercial suicide because I don't see then getting back to where they were.

So...I've never had a Blackberry and so never had to use BBM. Can someone explain to a numpty why I should use this? Any benefits and will it enrichen my life?

So I have stock messaging, 3 email addresses, Skype, Whatsapp, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Circle, Messanger and Line, do I really need another app?
