Following Perksie's advice from the other similarly titled thread that has been listed as solved by someone, thought I'd open a new thread, so any HTC One X users can report on any correspondence they have with O2 about the roll-out of 4.2.2 to the HOX.
The last major update (to 4.1.1) left a lot of users disillusioned with O2 after conflicting answers from a variety of sources. If anyone can tell me how to post a link to that thread for reference I will. I will also copy and paste my comment from the other ('solved') thread below.
Let's hope O2 get it right this time.
@Toby & @Chiara, can you help us at all....?

Lengthy chat with yet another O2 Guru today. Went as follows:
O2 : Parker: Hi I'm O2 : Parker. How can I help?
Phill: Has the Android 4.2.2 update for the HTC One X been released by O2 yet?
O2 : Parker: I'll check this form you.
O2 : Parker: Please give me a minute.
Phill: no probs
O2 : Parker: Thanks for waiting.
O2 : Parker: When a manufacturer releases a new version of Android for their phones, we test this software to make sure it is right for our customers. Unfortunately with the HTC One X and Neo our testing found that the software update affected the phone’s speed and performance.
O2 : Parker: These issues were present on three separate versions of the Android 4.2 software and are caused by the software having more advanced hardware requirements than previous software versions
O2 : Parker:
O2 : Parker: Once it's get available on O2, we'll update this news on our website..
O2 : Parker: Can I have your email address?
O2 : Parker: I can also send the email if I get it soon on O2.
Phill: But the software has been released by for the One X +, the only main differencer between the two being that the + has a 0.2Ghz faster processor.
Phill: How can that tiny difference (and a larger capacity battery) mean that it was ok to release it for the +, andf not the standard One X?
O2 : Parker: Yes, You are right. But One X+ is a very high end phone and the phone is now available for upgrade once there will be a upgrade for your phone you'll be notified.
O2 : Parker: I can help you with one step to check this if there is update or not.
Phill: I'm not asking for a phone upgrade! I want the software update! HTC released it in the UK, Vodaphone and other carriers have released it for their branded handsets. I want it for mine!
O2 : Parker: Just connect your phone with your HTC manager and there you'll get a option to update. If there will be any update you'll get it on the top of your screen.
O2 : Parker: Yes. I'm referring to update.
Phill: I wont, because it is locked for you to add bloatware too! HTC have already launched it. They did on 26th August. if you didn't lock it so you could stick loads of crap on it I would have it already!
O2 : Parker: Okay, pease give mew a minute.
Phill: will do. There is nothing superior about the One X+ over the standard HOX, apart from the factors I have mentioned. I can see no reason why O2 would think it is ok to release it for one and not the other. HTC has, and the other carriers have.
O2 : Parker: No worries, I'm checking this for you.
O2 : Parker: Thanks for waiting.
Phill: no probs
O2 : Parker: Phill, you can update the software if this is available on any other network or you can get it from open market, as I can see that at the moment it's not available on O2.
O2 : Parker: Once it comes on O2, and we can tested it for HTC on X.
Phill: But O2 have locked my handset! I can't get it with rooting my phone and invalidating my warranty.
Phill: Can you supply me with a unlocked phone?
O2 : Parker: Do you want to unlocked it to use any other network SIM card?
Phill: No, I've done that. I want it unbranded from O2, so that I can use the update HTC have released in the UK.
O2 : Parker: Okay.
O2 : Parker: You can update the phone software through other place from open market, O2 hasn't locked the phone to update the phone software.
O2 : Parker: Did you try to update phone software ?
Phill: How do you meaning? Getting the ota update, or rooting and flashing the phone?
O2 : Parker: Let me check this for you.
Phill: Check what?
O2 : Parker: I'll help you with the steps to check once phone software.
Phill: I have been manually checking it for the ota update by going settings>about>software updates>check now. There is nothing there.
O2 : Parker: Phill, please wait for a moment.
Phill: Will do. Thanks for your help so far...
O2 : Parker: Thank you.
O2 : Parker: Phill, I can unlock your phone so that you can use it with other networks. As, we have not launched this upgrade on this phone currently.
Phill: My phone is unlocked in terms of using other networks. I requested that myself, and have done so. O2 have locked the software/firemware of the phone so that they can add the O2 splash screen and bloatware and apps etc. I therefore cannot update my phone because O2 have to release the update for my device.
O2 : Parker: Yes I understand that completely.
Phill: My phone would need to be 'unbranded' from O2, so that I could receive the update that people who bought their handset from phones4u or cpw have already got.
Phill: Can you supply me with an unbranded handset?
O2 : Parker: I would suggest you to wait for some more time so that you can upgrade when its launched.
O2 : Parker: Sorry, but this is not possible.
Phill: When will it be launched???
O2 : Parker: We don't have any exact date for that, but once it'll be launched , we'll update this on our website .
Phill: Thank you for your time.
O2 : Parker: You're welcome.
info: We'll email a copy of your chat transcript to p.j.park>>>
O2 : Parker: Thanks for your understanding and patience .

I suspect that details of the upgrade and the technical wherewithal required to discuss the matter was a tad beyond Parker.

Being rude about the support staff will not help, they can only pass on what they are told.
If there is any advance warning given from any source it will be a first, it's a question of being patient.

I concur! Can see no reason why a 0.2Ghz processor speed and a larger battery are causing any hold-ups. I have had numerous chats with Gurus about this update (have only posted a few on here), and only a few seem to understand the fact that it is their bloody company that is preventing us having the update already! If they don't understand the basics of branded software how can they call themselves Gurus?

I think it's quite clear that they are not advised in this area at all, that's not a reflection on the staff but the management.
In a call-centre environment it would be quite easy to give a clear directive on how to respond to this and the responses Phillpark is getting are wide of the mark.
I think, given the number of time Phillpark has contacted the chat team *on his own*, this issue would be high-profile enough to have a prepared wording available

I don't fancy waiting months this time for an update from O2.
What's the easiest way to install 4.2?
Confused between rru cid bootloader flashing rooting etc !
