Blue dots

Can anyone tell me why there is a blue dot beside some of contacts in my phone book ? It isn't beside all of them and it sometimes disappears.  Thank you

The only time I've seen this is if a contact has been updated.

They will update automatically if you have your contacts linked to social media accounts.
