Hello,
I have just purchased a pre-owned Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact.
My home location has very poor signal coverage so I want to try using WiFi calling when the mobile signal drops out.
My phone doesn't seem to support it at the moment and I believe this is because it does not have O2 firmware .
How can I resolve this issue?
Thank you.

Sony XZ1 is a supported device and does not need O2 firmware.
@Waypher just needs wifi and 4g calling activating on his account.
Thanks

@Waypher Can you check this as below please
If you are using a Sony XZ Premium, XZ1 or XZ1 Compact, to get Wifi and 4G Calling, your device will need to use O2 firmware. This is essentially the software that makes your device turn on and run. Sometimes there are different versions of firmware for the same device. Your device should use O2 firmware if you bought it direct from us in an O2 shop, online or over the phone.
To check if your Sony is running O2 firmware:
Open the ‘Chrome’ app and tap the Home icon in the top left corner. If this takes you to www.o2.co.uk then your device has O2 firmware. If it takes you to Google, then Wifi and 4G Calling isn’t supported on your phone right now.
If you have changed the homepage in Chrome since buying your device, tap the three dots in the top right corner of Chrome, tap Settings, tap homepage, tap to edit the homepage and then press ‘Reset’. If it resets to www.o2.co.uk, then your device has O2 firmware. If it resets to Google, then Wifi and 4G Calling isn’t supported on your phone right now.

It would appear that you do need O2 firmware for the compact version (who knows why as it should be supported natively in Android), anyway, you can still have it enabled on your device to try it out and also head over to XDA Developers forum for latest O2 firmware.

Yeah, just checked that as per my post above.
I am not allowed to advise further on reflashing firmware though but is simple enough to do.
However, this should not stop it from being enabled account side.

Thanks, but as you can probably tell I am not exactly tech savvy 🙂
How would I ''check'' the firmware, and if as is likely it is not ''correct'',is my only option to buy a new phone from O2..... surely not ?

Thanks for continuing to try and help me Emma, but I'm suspecting that it's a lost cause with my current phone.
I've tried your suggestion yesterday, but have just tried again....the Chrome App takes me to Google rather than O2.
In your second part, I can get as far as homepage but there is no option for me to ''Edit'' or ''Reset''.
