SMS over WiFi calling for iPhones

live in a part of the UK with very limited 4G coverage so I have to use WiFi calling at home. I have an iPhone 11 with up to date software. The problem I have is that I can’t receive SMS text messages when I’m at home and I don’t see voicemail notifications either.

This is a big problem as I have an elderly mother who needs to contact me and she only has an old android phone (not a smartphone and that won’t change!) or a landline. So imessages and What’s App are not an option.

This is also an issue if I need to log in to websites with two-step verification.

Can I change my settings to make this work? Do more recent iPhones support SMS over WiFi calling? I don’t want to change phone brand. Does it matter who supplies my WiFi? Thanks!

Yes, iPhones are supported for sms over wifi.

Make sure your firmware is up to date on phone and you have wifi calling enabled.

Since all moved to 360 billing, this should be enabled by default on your account, but if you message O2 on Facebook (https://o2uk.co/O2CFB) , Twitter (https://o2uk.co/O2CTW) or Instagram (https://o2uk.co/O2CIG) , they should be able to confirm and help you with this. Good luck @Hels132

I think @pgn that you are working on the basis that @Hels132 is a contract customer ?

I don't think that WiFi Calling works on any O2 PAYG iteration ?

If the op can use Wifi Calling they are on Contract, as you cant use it on PAYG  so not sure what the point of your post is..

Just a need to add pointless posts all over the forum.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.
Please select the post that helped you best and mark as the solution. This helps other members in resolving their issues faster. Thank you.
