Each time you upgrade you have to start a new contract at current prices and terms & conditions you cannot upgrade and keep current tariff/ contract.
You can of course buy sim free and put current sim in to use old contract (but no reduction in monthly cost) or move to a sim free tariff and save money.
But o2 do not do what you have asked
