what is the minimum period for a contract of monthly paying agreements please?

Usually 2 years if a phone is included (some exceptions on premium tariffs) or 12 months if sim only but if you log into your MyO2 it will tell you when your contract is due an upgrade http://www.o2.co.uk/myo2

You can get a 30 day sim only contract if you don't need a phone...
