so yesterday morning i checked my O2 app as i realised i was due for an upgrade sometime this month but couldn't remember the exact date. It turns out i could upgrade 06 march 2017 but could upgrade that day for free so i decided to speak to an online assistant and he confirmed they would allow to upgrade free that day. The deal he came up with was £31 a month (O2 refresh) for 500 mins, unlimited texts and 500MB of data (i pay less per month for 1GB of data for my HTC M8 one but oh well) aswell as a upfront charge of £10. I thought this was quite a good deal anyway for a fairly new phone until my partner asked whether i could check with EE for the same deal for him. Well heres the problem EE offer the same tariff with no upfront cost for £28pm! i called O2 to see if i could get a price match and informed me that i couldn't but he could cancel the order and ring back monday (my initial upgrade date) and that could probably match the deal so i agreed to do that. This morning i had been bombarded with O2 texts saying that my delivery was due tomorrow?! but i was told it was cancelled? i rang again today to tell them of the situation and was told that they can no longer do anything about it. I was to either accept the phone or tell the courier i will not accept the parcel and it will be returned, i don't fancy doing that as i will be back to square one and have a feeling i will be paying for a phone i'm not getting any use out of. Do i accept the phone and call O2 and ask for more date for the price of this contract? 500MB isn't alot for £31 a month is it?

You can either refuse to take delivery or accept it and return it yourself. But either way you won't be able to upgrade again until it is scanned back in by o2 - this will take about a week.
What I would do is take delivery then call o2 and choose the "i'm thinking of leaving" option. Explain to them that you have seen a better deal and will be returning your upgrade unless they can offer you a discount or more data etc and see how that goes.
You can still ask for a returns slip to send phone back if it doesn't go to your liking.

Sounds like a rubbish deal to me tbh.
I'd cancel within 14 days and either try to get a discount on another contract or go elsewhere for a better deal.
