Will my contract get renewed automatically?

Hi all,

Due to family reasons, I had to leave the UK and will be away for couple of months. My contract is soon coming to an end and wanted to know whether if my contract gets renewed automatically? I wish to not renew my contract until I come back. How do I go on about this?
