My contract is not due for upgrade until Feb next year, can I upgrade early?

You would have to pay off the full term of your existing contract to upgrade early, although some Simplicity 12 month contracts do have the early upgrade option.

 

You could sell your current phone and put the proceeds towards buying a O2 or simfree phone of your choice outright and carry on using your current contract.

Not normally, check in MyO2.
