The only thing you can transfer is your number at the end of your existing contract

You can transfer your number over before your Vodafone contract ends by requesting a PAC (port authorisation code) from Vodafone through their website "contact us" this should only take 2 working days if it takes longer get in touch with them. When you have the PAC code phone O2 and explain what you would like to do they'll be very helpful (not brown nosing just personal experience!).

When you request your PAC code DON'T cancel your Vodafone contract at the same time. When you give O2 your PAC code they get in touch with Vodafone to begin the transfer process. This will automatically end your Vodafone contract.

Be warned though that if your Vodafone contract's not finished yet you will be charged a cancellation fee which is basically what you would pay for your remaining months in your contract in full. For example say you're on an 18 month contract that you pay £35 a month for and you have 6 months left in the contract then your cancellation fee will be £35 x 6 = £210

Essentially correct except that you will not pay VAT on that. So it will be £35 less VAT multiplied by 6. The reason they do not take VAT off is that normally when you pay your monthly contract of £35, O2 have to give the VAT portion of that to the government. They don't keep it all to themselves. Therefore as you are just paying O2 the remainder of the contract, they do not have to give the government the VAT for the remainder of the term, and so they deduct it from the total.

I hope that's clear enough 😐
