Taking out a second contract

Hi hope someone out there can help. On Thursday I applied for a contact in my name for my partner. I didn't really expect it to be accepted as I don't have a great credit rating but it was. I'm now wondering how long it will be before I can apply again as I would like to take one out for myself. I don't want to try on any other network.

Defaults stay on your credit file for 6 years then drop off

Damien1 is correct. However once you have paid off the default you are able to put a notice of correction on your account so when companies are deciding whether to offer credit they have the option to take that into account.

It is free to do and all three of the main credit agencies provide the service as part of their licence to operate.

It was Vanquis I tried. I think I'd rather steer clear of credit cards anyway don't trust myself.

I'm in Scotland so only 5 years fort defaults to drop but dont want to wait that long. Was thinking of making token payments to each of my creditors just as a start but can't get into view my credit file. I signed up with Call Credit. I've already tried Experian but the £15.00 charge is a bit off putting

I'm thinking of signing up to Noddle out of curiosity. Anything out of the ordinary I would need to know?

I tried Noddle but wasn't accepted. It said one of the reasons may be because I'm not on the electoral role. I think I should probably get round to that.

Your credit rating is almost zero unless you're on the Electoral Roll.

Not surprised Noddle rejected you!

No you will need to pass their identity check as you would expect, but other than that no problem. slight_smile

Damien put me onto them and I signed up a couple of days ago.

Most credit providers will mark you down If you are not on the electoral role. They will wonder what the person is trying to hide (note - not suggesting you have anything to hide at all just thinking as a credit provider).

Agree you should get that changed. You are doing the right things be reassured.

As a matter of interest, I just signed up to Noddle. My credit rating is 4/5, and I'm not on the electoral register. Go figure. Happy Dance
