recently topped up my phone for the first time since it was transferred from Pay Monthly to Pay & Go. i had the message confirmation stating that this process would take place etc... However, when i actually tried to top up for the first time, the phone remains to have no service. i have turned the phone on/off as well as take the sim card out and back in but still no service. has my top up been wasted or do i have to wait a certain amount of time for the sim to be reactivated once the top up has taken place.

I think we've found the problem. You need to call customer service and ask them to send you a Pay & Go sim and you'll need to swap your number to the new sim. http://swapmysim.o2.co.uk/

@Bambino wrote:@MI5 Now I'm confused. Would cs send the OP a P & G sim with the OP's number on it? If it were lost in the post, anyone could use it.
Yes they would - If anyone else wanted to use a PAYG sim with someone else's number, they'd still have to top it up.

Yes P&G doesn't matter because it needs to be topped up.

I thought the pay monthly to payg was all c/s lead and c/s had to send out a blank payg sim then do the swap there end when received etc http://www.o2.co.uk/help/phones-and-devices/how-to-keep-your-mobile-number or you got hold of a payg sim and they again sorted it .
Or I could be wrong !

No, when I changed a number to P&G they sent out a proivisioned sim card. Had to call them to get the credit bthat was left on the account to be transferred.

That's what I thought @adamtemp64, but the OP has said they topped up using a land line and it was successful. Only problem was they didn't have the right sim card.
