I have a monthly paid plan and the free 02 travel bolt on. I am curently in Portugal and I understand that my minutes, text and data are included. 

However, I have found contadictory information as to if I will be charged for calling or texting back to the UK 

Could someone advise !

You can use your minutes, texts and data from your allowances just as you would in the UK

As long as you don't go over your allowances you won't be charged any extra as Portugal is within the EU @SPatel

All calls and texts used within your allowances are included both back to the UK and to all other EU countries.

Hi @SPatel 

If you are in Portugal, which is in the Europe zone, you can use your allowances as you would if you were in the UK. You won't be charged unless you exceed your allowances.
