Received a call this morning claiming to be from O2, and it was very difficult to determine whether it was a scam or not.
The number was 0161 394 0219, advising that O2 were giving me a 40% discount on my tariff due to COVID-19.
They just needed some security details....
Whilst on the call I googled the number which indicated it was a scam, however they sent a security code which did come up on my phone along with other O2 Priority messages received historically.
Surely you ask for tariff reductions due to COVID, rather than being giving them randomly??
Anyone else received these calls?

Just had this call - was immediately suspicious as he said no changes to contract length and googled while he was transferring me to colleague. Said no thanks as I found this thread and hung up - no details given.

These calls have been going on for years. Best thing to always do is ask for their name and tell them you'll call them back. Make a note of the number, block it, and contact O2 direct and ask to be put through to the person. All organisations (no matter how big or small) can transfer your call to a named employee. This is applicable to ANY call from an organisation. It DOES worry me though that they claim to be O2's 'partners' - how do they know my details? Has there been a security breach that O2 aren't aware of?

020 3868 4524 - I had the same call, offering 50% off from my current o2 tariff for the next 6 months, due to Covid.... They managed to cheat the security code out from me, which indeed was very deceitful, with a genuine looking history showing there with previous security code texts from O2. By providing them this one off security code, they managed to gain access to my O2 details: name, current subscription, data allowance, last bill amount, etc..... He confirmed some of my details back to me, when I asked to verify himself... This is bad enough already if they managed to hack into O2's customer data base ! They then wanted my password, by which point I managed to google it up and found it's a scam, so I did not provide my actual password, told him, I did not want his discount, but he was very very adamant why I wouldn't want the same thing cheaper. I just disconnected the call. They then kept calling me back from another 6 different numbers in the next 3-4 minutes:

All VOIP numbers, so no surprise...
And of o2's (un) trusted partners... So no hacking has been going on
