Do you have to pay an upfront cost at all when you upgrade?
For your first O2 bill you are charged for the first couple of days connection, until the billing date, and then one month in advance.
Payment date is always 2 weeks after the billing date.

The first bill which will be for a full month and 2 days will arrive 2 days after starting the contract.
It will be due for payment 14 days later.
