I need to give 30 days notice on my contract

Topic.

I've just signed up for a new contract with O2 on the offer for a Galaxy S3 for £27 a month, but I've still got a month and a bit left on my existing contract.

The guy in the O2 shop said that on the 20th of May when I would;ve upgraded had I waited, I need to ring O2 and give 30 days notice to terminate the old contract, would a phone call suffice or do I need to do it in writing?

Helpful responses welcomed.

Phone call to cs is fine. If you are moving your number across to the new contract it will terminate immediately anyway.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

I only asked because when I was on 3 a few years back, I did both, phone call to Indian call centre, and cancelled in writing, and they wouldn't let me out of contract, I had to get Dad to call them and get all upset with them to get out of the contract.

Always better speaking to a live agent. They sort everything there and then, you also have a contact name.
