It's a change to the way messages work on Android to make it more like Apple's iMessage,
O2 are moving to using Google services rather than their own services. You shouldn't notice any difference.

It is the service used by Android mostly Pixel and Samsung devices to send messages to other Android Devices.
o2 are moving to the Google Service from there current vendor
