Going to greece

Anonymous
Not applicable

Im off to Greece (Zante) thursday and ive been reading upon the using my phone aboard and seen I already have the travel bolt on. I had popped into O2 in Birmingham just for some reassurance, but was left puzzled.

I was told I would have to pay £48 to get 250MB of data? All though the website says:

If you're travelling in Europe on our standard rates we'll cap your internet use at £48 (inc VAT)/250MB

So do I have to pay £48 or will it be capped if I spend £48? I was also told the £1.99 data for 24hrs was 25MB but website says:

There's no upper limit on Pay Monthly, but traffic management steps apply.

What does that mean?

Im just looking to use my phone to ring back to the UK and maybe lay on the beach while facebooking/tweeting jealous beach pictures to my family and friends.

Jonsie said "We are assuming the OP is on contract. It's only 50mb if they are P&G."

Good point.

Also to note Ref Payg for others coming across this thread for Travel Info has to be reset when 50mb is used up by texting MORETRAVEL to 21300, If you don't, your allowance will be automatically reset at midnight.

Do you you want to use your O2 service in Greece.

If so use o2 travel. https://www.o2.co.uk/shop/international/using-phone-in-europe

If not turn off mobile data and roaming in the phones settings and use wifi only.

Settings , mobile , mobile data.

Travel app http://news.o2.co.uk/2014/06/13/travel-app-launches-with-content-from-tripadvisor/

If on contract tugo is an option from O2

If you turn off mobile data and use wifi only you won't get any data charges.

If you have O2 voicemail activated it's an idea to turn it off before leaving the Uk. Dial 1760.

If you want to use mobile data for checking emails etc you will pay £1.99/day.

Rates for calls and texts are here : http://international.o2.co.uk/internationaltariffs/travelling_abroad

As said, if you want no charges switch off mobile/cellular data and just use wifi.

Free apps such as whatsapp, messanger, viber or Sype will allow you free calls and messages over wifi.

TuGo will let you use your allowances, again over wifi.

You'll only be charged £1.99 for the days that you use data in Europe.

  • There's no upper usage limit, but traffic management steps apply.
  • Your daily data charge will apply from midnight to midnight UK time

When you make or receive calls between countries in Europe, there's a connection charge of 50p, then it's free to talk for up to 60 minutes.

Texts sent to the UK and Europe – 5p (free to receive).

Sending a media message – 25p per message.
