I had a call from someone saying they are from O2, their number came up as Leeds? They were offering a 20% discount on my monthly SIM contract. How do I know this is actually from O2?

You don't, as it was a scam call or perhaps a valued reseller partner trying to con you into an O2 Business Contract, @CathyPJ

Was it a 7447823202 number? This number called me and also offered a discount on my monthly sim and was sending email requests to change password of my o2 account

No, not the same number, the call I received showed up as a Leeds landline number, 0113 526 4982.

@KJboski

That was definitely a scam. No one should be conned into changing passwords. This gives the scammers the chance to take over your account. Just block the numbers.
