Difficulty in getting a temporary O2 30 day rolling deal

Anonymous

Hi folks. My 24 month iphone 4S contract just expired. I chatted to an advisor to switch to a rolling 30 day SIM only for a couple of months to give me a chance to check out new phones/ contract renewal options. I was amazed when she couldn't offer me anything even in the same ball park as Virgin or Three's unlimited 30 day £15 deals, even though I'm a long term customer.

She was very nice but admitted she had nothnig to offer. So now I have a PAC code and will go with Virgin/ Three or EE short term and will leave O2.

Does this seem right? I'd have thought O2 would at least be able to budge a little bit on the temporary 30 day tarriff to tide me over until I choose a new phone and renew my contract. Seems like an unusual business policy?

Thanks in advance for any information you may have on this - maybe I went about it wrong?

If you did nothing the contract would drop onto a 30 day rolling contract anyway.

You could ask for your number to be transfered onto a payg account until you make your mind up and then transfer it back to a contract.

Look at the independants such as cpw as they can give slightly better deals, and go into your local o2 high street shops to check out the handsets and deals that are available.

Live Chat are non uk outsourced callcentres who we would advise not to upgrade with.

You should have been able to switch to one of the Simplicity tariffs listed here:

To get a 30 day rolling contract you need to do absolutely nothing. Your present contract just becomes 30 day rolling the day after your contract expires.

I DO NOT WORK FOR O2

However you would continue at the original price level of your contract leaving you paying for a handset subsidy which you've already paid for (unless on O2 Refresh)

So it's worth looking around at the simplicity deals if you don't plan on buying a new handset as you will either get more minutes/texts/data for your money, a cheaper price plan or quite probably both
