Hi
My son has a phone in my name..so my phone I suppose!
He turns 18 soon and wants to get his own phone (hurray!). My question is this, does paying off your device plan in effect buy you out of the contract, so he can stop using the phone so no airtime charges and he can go on his merry way and get his own phone?
Thanks

Hi @Vt1

Yes....a guide here on cancellation

Guide: Cancelling Your Contract

He will have to undergo credit checks though if taking out his own contract.

Hello Vt1, yes this can be done on the condition your son passes credit check, it will be best to pop into one of our stores together with your son you can pay off the device which will then leave you free of contact, the advisor will also perform a credit check for your son and have the number moved over from your name into his name with your consent to realise the number to your son.

Hope this helps

@Vt1 Make sure your son can pass the credit check before you cancel the current contract. If you cancel and he doesn't pass, he could lose the phone number.
