Data useage too high

Anonymous

I purchased a 1GB bolt on at 17:55 today. I looked at the useage on the internet and at 18:30 today half of the bolt on had been used. Is it possible to use so much data in half an hour. Why else might the useage be so high?

Hi and Welcome to the Community Forum,

As mentioned already until you divulge more information such as the phone your using we will not be able to help track down what is happening.

Or telephone Customer Services and ask them to log into your account to see where the data is going.

Until you do this I can only think you have either a hungry Pacman or Gremlin running around inside your mobile phone    wink

Something is clearly consuming it. What phone and was it an extra bolton? What does the phones usage say?

Was this an additional bolt on to a normal inclusive allowance which ran out?

2 things going on here....
1 - Data is counted up at midnight and includes all the data used throughout the day - It's just the billing system that allocates it at midnight not when it is been used. Also the iPhone will drop wifi when the screen is locked (unless the charger is plugged in) so background apps and push email will use data in those circumstances.
2 - There are many reports of a bug in iOS that either uses or inaccurately records data usage back to the network. If you search this forum and Google you will see many reports in all countries across all networks but Apple have not managed to resolve the issue yet.

I personally turn off mobile data in my iPhone settings to stop the phone from switching to O2 data when on wifi. Obviously remembering to turn it back in when out of wifi coverage. That stops any background data use.

I too have read threads across many forums where people saying they are being affected ,and also by people saying they are not.

Something we've discussed many times.

Like others I can only go on what my experiences are which are zero issues on iOS 7.1.2

Very true.

Since these discussions I've been watching my data usage via the iPhones settings.
