@jonsie its every network, its the programming writen into IOS and the "behind the sceens" constant updates its not the network its the IOS platform... the only way to get around it is to look at other networks that offer more data for what you pay in line rental to help this issue, my mum is on Voda and she has/had the exact same issues

I can understand that but it seems every update over the last few years causes data issues. I know that you would have tried everything before giving up and changing network. Strange how this appears to be an O2 bug or are other networks having problems too?
We've got 2 iPhones on EE now and not seen the problem, but am monitoring it.

I have an iPhone on o2 & have never had this data problem. Then again I do turn off the obvious things that could cause it like WiFi assist, background refresh. Updates to WiFi only. In mobile data. Turn off the apps that you don’t use while using data & just use the ones you would while out & about. Also GPS maps & constant location searching will use data

I'm of the opinion that a smart is fairly useless if you have to turn everything off.....
