Hi, currently going to Oz on a working visa in January for roughly a year. I wanted to know my options regarding my contract, can I pause it whilst I’m away or will I need to still make payments for a phone number I won’t be using.

You're welcome @Lilo

You can still use your phone with a new sim from a local provider when you get there.

If you don't intend using your O2 sim, remove it and keep it somewhere safe until you return home.

@Lilo

You cannot pause it.

If out of contract you can switch to PAYG to save money, if not, you'll need to keep paying the contract.

If you wish to use your phone abroad, see roaming guide here Guide: Roaming MegaGuide
