If and when you do choose to end your contract, this guide shows you how: https://community.o2.co.uk/t5/How-to-Guides/Cancelling-your-contract-An-updated-guide/ba-p/1234852

Upgrade through your MyO2 but the sim only option may not appear until you contract ends.
You will automatically keep your number and the same SIM card if you just upgrade that way.
Your new tariff will change on your sim inside 24 hours.
