Can you transfer a number before the contract is up?

Been with O2 for about 10 years, renewal is up in November and after discussing going onto a sim only contract as i do not need a phone, they are offering one at about £20 a month with unlim phone unlim text and 1 gig data AS AN UPGRADE.

I can get unlim everything on Virgin on a rolling 30 day contract for £15 all in and that's NOT an upgrade.

So I am looking at ditching O2 but will pay off my contract and just bin the last months contract, soo i can have a seamless chane over, hence can I transfer the number before the contract ends?

You only need ask O2 for a PAC to give to Virgin, using it will cancel your contract and O2 will send you a final bill to cover the remaining period.

You can transfer your number at anytime by asking for your PAC which you give to your new provider. However, using the PAC will effectively end your contract and O2 will bill you for whatever time is remaining on the contract. As for being seamless, there will be usually a varying delay between disconnecting your number from one network and reconnecting to your new network.

Have you checked that Virgin gives you stable Network service and 3G data connection where you live , commute and work.

Having the tariff is all fine and well but useless if your phone has connection issues to that network.

If you do move ensure you have your phone unlocked if your taking your phone with you.

Thanks, the Virgin network is very good to good around my patch, i think as it's a monthly rolling contract I will get one use it and try it for the month, then change numbers at the end, no problems phone wise, i doubt its locked as it was a free new Sony Xperia Z that came as a free gift with my new TV, hence its only a month old and why i do not need a replacement phone. Simply a Sim contract at a fair price.

I would test out another networks sim in it just to be safe before you part ways with o2 but that's up to you.
