I have an o2 phone and pay as I go. I use vodaphone for wifi so why am I being charged or dat on my phone when I am using wifi for data and not my phone?

Have you disabled mobile data in settings? If not then mobile data may still run when a WIFI connection drops or is out of range

Go into wifi settings /advanced/wifi assist and turn it off as well as turning mobile data off.
