I have just inserted a Sim only card into my elderly parents new phone which is very basic. I have topped it up with £10 however after i did this it says must be used by 9th April, does this mean they will lose the balance if not used by then? they hardly use it anyway unless they are out & need to contact me in an emergency, £10 would probably last them a year if ime honest. Can anyone clarify please.

It looks as if they are on a Big Bundle tariff which does need to be topped up each month https://www.o2.co.uk/help/pay-as-you-go/big-bundles

You need to be on a Classic PAYG tariff. These are available from Tesco or giffgaff. Both are on the O2 network.
