PAYG SIM expiry

I don't live in the UK but I might come once a year. So I'm wondering how long before my PAYG SIM card expires? And the cheapest way I can extend its life for a year until I'm next in the country?

You need to make a chargeable call or top up every 6 month to keep the the sim active

@annfoo  You'll need to top up every 6 months. Also as you can only have 63 days of fair usage, you need to return to the UK so it registers calls and texts from UK. Then you can return to wherever you are abroad.
