Last month I started a topic titled "Why is 5G not available on PAYG?"
Unfortunately, the forum trolls and know alls hi-jacked it, and it was locked.
Today, 1st July, I noticed that my phone is now showing that I'm getting 5G on my PAYG phone.
I've opened this thread to inform anyone who is interested, that 5G is now available on PAYG.
Best wishes.

@EnlliI have turned on 5g Auto and its shown 5g where I had 4g before and signal is 2 sometimes 3 bats out of 4 in
town centre and I using a 4g sim still so whether I getting non stand along 5g I dont know.
o2 coverage checker says 5g signal good indoors and outdoors in town centre and the part of town stay in it says 5g signal good outdoors and poor coverage indoors.

Don't need a new SIM then as it wouldn't work at all otherwise.
As to Stand Alone I would doubt it. Contact SIM cards don't work unless they have an R15 SIM and the bulk of customers don't.
It was the reason for changing mine at new year.
Usual O2 mess
Go with what you have for now.
Good news

Looking at coverage checkers of the main net works EE followed by o2 have the bast coverage with Vodafone having poor coverage of 4g and 5g in a few places.
Even Thee has better 4g coverage than Vodafone and Threes 5g coverage is a a little better than Vodafone but not my much.
Also it seems EE is the last of the networks still to offer 5g to its pay and go customers.
Will see what 5g is like later in afternoon when I going to Edinburgh festival for a few hours.
Hoping o2 pay and go will get wifi calling in the next few months as wifi calling still not available but it last we seem to now have 5g and without the need for a new sim.

4G & WiFi calling will be available for Pay As You Go customers by the end of 2025.

Think o2 need to now look at maybe updating there info for it still says 5g not offered on pay as you go.
5g may still have patchy coverage in some areas but at lest it now also on pay and go.
Doing a Goolge search it says you best having your phone set to 5g Auto. Rather thanks setting it to 5g on.

How do I check if I have an R15 SIM card? I’m a pay monthly customer and my 5G sim is about a year old. I do have the 5G standalone toggle in settings and it’s switched on.

As you can get this via either plastic or eSIM, checking if the serial on the plastic SIM contains R15 or 3GPP... eSIM needs this tip: You can check if you're connected to 5G SA under Settings > About phone > Status Information > SIM card status. Under Mobile network type, if it says 'NR SA', you're in fact connected to 5G SA.

However, on Android there is no such toggle.
Why Apple complicate things is beyond me. 🤔
