Last month I started a topic titled "Why is 5G not available on PAYG?"
Unfortunately, the forum trolls and know alls hi-jacked it, and it was locked.
Today, 1st July, I noticed that my phone is now showing that I'm getting 5G on my PAYG phone.
I've opened this thread to inform anyone who is interested, that 5G is now available on PAYG.
Best wishes.

Thats very good news for o2 pay and go customers.
Just wondering if you will have to get a new 5g SIM card or will they auto upgrade the 4g sim.
Hopefully more services will come to pay & go soon

@jonsie Thanks for your reply.
I just wondered as my iPhone 16e now shown 5g and I know my SIM card is 4g as I used it in my iPhone 11 up until 5 weeks ago.
Also the o2 website still says they are doing o2 pay and go 4g sims and there is no mention of a 5g pay and go SIM card.

Just noticed today that my phone was showing as connected to 5G and did a Speedtest which confirmed. I didn’t think I had switched on 5G in settings, but it was selected. I switched back to 4G and was getting unable to connect in Speedtest so I switched back to 5G. This was in Cheltenham which I’ve previously found to have very patchy coverage in parts when trying to sort parking with an app, brilliant on 5G today though.

Im going up town tomorrow for just over an hour or so before going to my sisters in afternoon. So may pop in to the o2 shop in town and see if they can swap my 4g SIM card for a 5g one. Last time I swapped SIM cards was after I got the iPhone 11 in a Black Friday sale on Amazon back in 2019 with 5 monthly payments. Was using the iPhone 6s before that.
I have been on the o2 pay and go rolling plans since late 2023 when I moved from pay and go big bundles and have had the same mobile number for well over 20 years now. So would like to keep my number.

With a straight SIM swap you keep the same number.
Did one myself last New Year

Been to the o2 shop in town and after they checked my number said they don’t do pay & go 5g SIM cards just now and that all SIM cards for pay & go are still 4g. They also said my 4g SIM card may just auto pick up the 5g signal and that I may not need a new 5g pay & go sim and that they may just be testing the 5g in a few areas. They also said to keep an eye on it.
One guy looked up this forum after I told them about it and said one guy may have jumped the band wagon and its only a 5g test they and some others have picked up and now everyone wants 5g on pay & go.
Guy also said o2s 4g signal has good coverage in most places the now.

Looks like a case for @Dave-O2 to investigate. Is the shop right, Dave?
O2 are pretty useless when it comes to updating shop staff.
Make sure 5G is selected on your phone and see if there are places it picks up 5G
Use the coverage checker to find 5G areas near you
