If you settled the debt then you need to do the following

Send details of the settlement, along with a copy of your credit report to:

CreditFileReferrals@o2.com

If it was a justified default it will not be removed.
It will drop off your credit report after 6 years.
If there were mitigating circumstances and assuming the debt has been paid, you can put a notice of correction on your file yourself.
If this is the only issue you have, it shouldn't have a major impact on your mortgage application.
