both gas and elec meters stopped working end of october. 02 has been sending service messages relating to the local mast advising of faults/repairs/performance issues and advising customers to connect their mobiles to their wifi when at home to help the situation.
do smart meters do send signals over the mobile networks ?

Yes they do. I can't have Smart Meters as there is no usable signal in my meter cupboard.

Send manual meter readings in to your supplier until the mast is fixed.

That's a relief 😄🤣
guess that's I'm going to have to do 😔
just found this on 02 website :-
Our Network can get busy in this area.
This means your data could be slower than normal. We’re sorry about that. Our team is aware and working to make it better. Our top tips for staying connected would be to find local Wifi hotspots and download whatever content you need whilst connected to Wifi, so you can still enjoy it on the move.
What a cracking service asking their customers not to use their network because it's too busy
