MMS photo messages from HTC OneX+ to Motorola KRZRK1 divert to O2 Media Messaging Online Service

I recently purchased a new HTC One X + smart phone from my mobile service provider O2 in the UK. We also have a 5 year old Motorola KRZRK1 phone which my wife uses. Both phones are set up for MMS picture messaging and both work with MMS. The only problem is that picture messages sent from my new HTC One X + smart phone to my older Motorola KRZRK1 do not actually reach the KRZRK1 handset but get diverted to the O2 Media Messaging Online Service from which I am invited to view them online. This is very annoying and inconvenient. This does not happen with MMS picture messages sent from my Motorola KRZRK1 to itself which are received satisfactorily by the KRKZK1 handset, or picture messages sent from my KRZRK1 to my new HTC One X+ which are also received satisfactorily by my HTC handset, or with picture messages sent from my new HTC One X+ to itself, also received by the handset satisfactorily. O2 told me that they believe the reason for the problem of my KRKZK1 handset not receiving the MMS picture messages directly from my HTC One X + may be that the MMS picture files sent from my HTC One X + are too big for my older KRZRK1 to receive directly. However, at the suggestion of HTC I have set the MMS message size on my new HTC OneX+ to the lowest possible size setting of 100Kb and it automatically downsizes all pictures to be sent by MMS to LESS than 100Kb (typical picture sizes sent are 45 - 75 Kb). Can anyone throw any light on this problem for me, and how to rectify it. HTC say there is no problem with the HTC handset and that the problem lies with my mobile network provider O2.

You suggest maybe a formatting problem. Please can you explain, and, if this is the cause, is there anything I can do about it?

Its only a working idea in my own limited grey matter but I am thinking that the motorola is an old model with old software and obviously the new phone running the latest software.

The new sotware will be backwards compatible allowing MMS from the motorola. 

Like I said it is only a theory and I need to have a think about it as without having the phones to hand I can not test my theory.

Ok, had a think about it and batted a few ideas of one of the regulars (MI5) and to be honest we are not sure. 

I suspect as I mentioned before it is a format problem. I think that bearing in mind your Motorola is 6 plus years old technology that was only 2g that it can not handle the compression software used on current MMS. 

I may be right might I might be wrong and I hope that somebody comes in here and says do this and that for you to get it to work. 

I honestly do not think there is a solution to get the MMS working. I will continue to think about it in the hope I get a sudden brainwave. Sorry I could not give you a definitive answer.

On request I've looked into this and apparently mms can be compressed to save data. Now I think steersy is right the latest phone may have a different compression package. being backwards compatable would allow it to recieve from your old phone but your old phone would be unable to recognise the format hence the viewing online link(and able to see its own).


Are there any updates for the old phone? Can you tell us the firmware/software codes? Might be able to find a way to flash it with the latest variant.

I've done Motorola's before and the process is real easy - The problem is you can't get the software and the support has all but gone for these old handsets now. The easiest way forward is to replace the phone with something a bit newer.

Thank you guys for your help on this one. I am still playing with this in my head but the more I think about the more I think my initial theory is right.
