Cannot receive texts from O2 SIM cards in Ireland

I'm currently living in Ireland, and for the past month I haven't been able to receive texts from O2 (or Tesco Mobile) numbers.

Here's what I know:

  • I can make and recieve phone calls without issue
  • The person sending the text is charged
  • My network in Ireland says that the messages aren't hitting their server at all - and there's nothing there that they can investigate.
  • I CAN receive messages from people with Three UK and EE SIM cards.

To me, this looks like an O2 problem.

But I'm getting absolutely nowhere with tech support who keep on asking me the same questions over and over when I DO manage to talk to them (I missed a call earlier and the voicemail said they'd call back in 2 DAYS). And that's after several runs through the 'have you tried switching your phone off and on again' routine.

There is absolutely no need to be rude, I did read the first post. Nowhere did you mention you had more than one sim card.

This is a customer to customer forum aiming to help other customers. So if we can't help I suggest you contact customer services again and persevere with them.

You might want to remove the solution you gave yourself as well. Your problem is not solved.

Best of luck!

I read it that you are using an Irish network and can receive texts from everyone bar people sending from O2 or any of their MVNO's. This is an issue that needs to be investigated by both your network and O2 between them. It isn't something you are going to sort out yourself unless you can get the networks to investigate together. Of course they will both say that it is a problem of the other but it's something on the exchange platform.

There are no widespread reports about this issue certainly here. have you looked on your home network's forum? Personally I would get your Irish sim card replaced to make sure that isn't the problem. Sounds in all honesty like a problem with this or your present network despite their denial.
