Windows phone 8.1

Windows phone 8.1 should be announced today with a rumoured release date of 23rd April.
So question is, how long until O2 get it out to us? I'm starting my campaign now due the stupidly long wait for gdr3 on huawei w1.

As the phones have O2 branding on them they will need to ensure that the updates not only carry their branding but will work correctly once installed.  All networks do the same when they provide branded phones - I used to work for T-Mobile and they were the same.

It may not seem like it, but it's all about customer service - not point releasing something then it all goes wrong!

Perhaps if Apple did the same you wouldn't read as many horror stories on Facebook everytime they update their phones!

I generally use unlocked phones so O2 branding isn't really an issue for me.

I'm glad though that O2 check how the software works on their network and their phones.  From what I remember of the last release, O2 were pretty quick releasing updates compared to other carriers.

Thanks captain.

This release is supposed to improve battery life, so hopefully it'll make a difference.

It's a bit soon yet, but can you let us know how your battery is doing with this release?

Downloaded 8.1 to my w1 last night the battery life seems to be the same as it always has been, only 2 problems.
1 O2 appear to have region locked the phone so I'm unable to get cortana.
2 the sd card isn't recognised and you have to plug the phone into mains, remove the battery and sd then put them back in which sorts it, but if you power off the phone the sd goes unrecognised until you do the battery/sd removal again.
On the whole it's a better os and thankfully now has a notification centre.

Quick update battery life is about the same I haven't noticed anything different on my 620 which hasn't got a great battery anyway,if you want Cortana you will have to change your region and language to usa as they are the only ones who have it at the moment we(uk) will get it later this year

I tried Cortana but it couldn't understand my accent Smiley Frustrated so I reverted back to not having it.

My battery seems to be a bit better on the 920 now its run through a couple of cycles, but then it was shockingly bad with the original developers preview.

Hopefully 8.1 will entice the developers of O2's MyO2 & O2 WiFi apps & make them operative on Pay & Go Windows Phones
