I bought a Lumia 620 from Virgin mobile (unlocked and a good price) and have been using it on O2 since August but the volume up button has recently stopped working. I understand this is a common problem and it probably needs a bit of soldering work to be done.
Would I be better sending it back to Virgin for repair (it is within the 12 month warranty) or sending it to the nearest Nokia Care centre ? I want the job done properly as apart from that I think it's a great phone.
Also I was thinking of factory resetting it before sending it in in case it gets lost or is not repairable. Is there an easy way of backing up and then restoring my apps/contacts/settings etc ?
Thanks

Thanks for the quick replies.
I have emailed my 2 nearest Nokia Care centres to see what they can do. When I spoke to Virgin they were very helpful and have sent me a prepaid envelope to return it in. I have heard that their repair service isn't that good so will see what the Nokia Care centres say.
The backup and restore looks quite straightforward.

Rather than get Virgin to replace it I decided to send it to Nokia for repair as the service centre said thats what they would do anyway. Another service centre said they would do the repair but I would have to post it to them and pay for return postage.
After an online chat with Nokia they gave me a url where you can organise a phone return.
It is

and you get a next day UPS collection. He's just collected it this morning (Friday) and I can track it's journey and also the repair status at Nokia.
The whole process has been quite straightforward so far. The only issues were finding out how to return the phone and then clearing my personal data from the phone and doing a factory reset.

I am still waiting but have monitored the progress on the excellent Nokia Tech Support website - http://www.nokiatechsupport.co.uk/
It arrived at Nokia yesterday morning, was booked in and went through checks before being put on the workbench at 18:45 and being repaired by 19:15 ! The log of events is very detailed (I wish my local garage had this sort of information whenever my car gets repaired).
It was dispatched at 6:45 this morning so I guess it will arrive in the next few days.
I've been using my Android phone in the meantime and I just don't like it anymore. The Windows Phone experience feels so much slicker. I hope it's here for the long term.
