Hi there.

I've received a notification that from January 2022 older Blackberry devices will no longer be supported. When I've looked at the O2 website it's not clear if this just relates to internet and the phone will still work for calls and texts.

I'd upgrade the phone but it's for an elderly relative who wouldn't easily get used to a different phone. She only uses it for phone calls and SMS/ MMS.

So, does anyone know if the phone will still be useable after January 2022?

Blackberry announced this a long time ago, that BIS (Blackberry Internet Services) where been sunsetted in Jan 2022 as they are turning off the infrastructure.

And SMS and Phone Calls can't be guaranteed to still work, so it might be time to upgrade I'm afraid.

@Johnny_Saturnin

It's just BIS that will no longer be supported, so that's data, email, internet side of things.

Calls and texts will not be effected.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)
