World News : Ebola: Heathrow to start screening passengers

Anonymous

Headline : Ebola: Heathrow to start screening passengers.

Excerpt from the Link "Heathrow airport is to start screening for Ebola among passengers flying into the UK from countries at risk."

My thoughts :

This is getting rather worrying when it could appear on our own doorstep. Not taking anything away from the people and families that have suffered from this to date.

What I hate is that every time I come back on an 11 hour flight from brasil, they spray some kind of disinfectant stuff all through the plane that makes me cough and splutter for about an hour.  Supposedly it's "natural", but what does that mean?  Cyanide is "natural", but we don't want to breathe it in, do we?

Last time I wore a face mask.  Didn't help, but made people look at me Evil.

What appals me even more is that the world has run out of ZMapp the drug being used to treat sufferers of Ebola.

How the hell has that been allowed to happen?

We knew over  3 months ago how virulent this disease was and how with travel, it could spread  more quickly than any other killer disease.

Apparently the Scottish nurse transferred back to the UK is being treated with alternative therapies as there is none of this vaccine to give her

Last I heard her condition is deteriorating

I assume that the large pharmacutical companies limit production to keep prices high?

I mean, presumably we have the resources to produce more.

Whilst the EU and other world powers continue to allow patents freely on medical drugs, we are, unfortunately, at the mercy of the shareholders :smileysad:.

This is your challenge for tonight :

"The drug is composed of three monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) that have been chimerized by genetic engineering.[8] The components are chimeric monoclonal antibody c13C6 from a previously existing antibody cocktail called "MB-003" and two chimeric mAbs from a different antibody cocktail called ZMab, c2G4 and c4G7"

Have 10 litres ready for the morning will you.

This was why I was so outraged. Yes, pharmaceutical companies do charge phenomenal prices for drugs....but in this case we heard how the government had implemented 'so many plans' to counteract Ebola !!

A real pity then that within the expert planning process, they never instructed the drug companies to make a lot more of this ZMapp

Absolutely criminal error ....in my humble opinion

Oh yes. I know its an experimental drug....It was developed in a very small company in San Diego with only 9 employees initially.

However it is well documented that Ebola was out there (so to speak.) It was also proved this drug worked. So Although there may be some excuse for its delay, they have been innoculating people for months. That in itself should have proved the urgency...and the need to set up other companies help produce it.

Thank you for that info. It's puts a different perspective on the many reports that I have read... but I wont start a conspiracy theory on Zmapp....or it's supply.... wink

It just supports what I said really ...that more could have been done by all governments to increase the supply related to the very obvious demand....

Edited ...spelling.

Even if I DID have the bits in my chemistry set to do it, (which I don't), can you guarantee that nobody would sue me?
