Hey everyone,

hope you all doing well. As per last year we are celebrating the United Nations Bee Day again.

The UN designated 20 May as the day to raise awareness of the importance of these little pollinators, the threats they face and their contribution to sustainable development.

So the good news first: Our little brown and yellow friends are making a big comeback. The World’s Bee Population Is recovering During COVID-19 Lockdown. As the BBC reports: Fewer fumes and pollution particles from cars mean that bees can more easily smell floral scents that lead them to plants that need pollinating. And fewer cars on the roads also mean less drive by bee deaths.

And as many people think of bees as vicious stinging insects, let me show you how cute they actually are!!! I want to bless you all with a collection of super cute bee bums. You are welcome! 🌸 🐝

But we are far from ideal conditions. An estimated 80% of flowering plants and one-third of the world's food is pollinated by bees. So what can everyone of us do to help those honey-making rascals?

  • planting a diverse set of native plants, which flower at different times of the year;
  • buying raw honey from local farmers;
  • buying products from sustainable agricultural practices;
  • avoiding pesticides, fungicides or herbicides in our gardens;
  • protecting wild bee colonies when possible;
  • sponsoring a hive;
  • making a bee water fountain by leaving a water bowl outside;
  • helping sustaining forest ecosystems

Our resident bee expert @TallTrees ( and proud owner of exactly 764 bees) could tell you even more about our flying pals. Let’s all help to make these cute little butts flourish! I am raising a glass of nectar - cheers! 🍹

I like the Blackbird song so summer.
Love water fountain sounds too.
@Cleoriff
Even though it's tough with covid-19
It's wonderful to see nature getting on with it all.

I too love birdsong and the sound of water trickling @Cleoriff

I`m lucky to have birds in the garden and visiting houses across the street. There was even a heron on a roof opposite the other evening...

but unfortunately I don`t have a water feature in my garden and nearest stream is some way off and too far to walk to... so miss out on trickling water

Surprisingly @Mi-Amigo...Herons seem to fly long ways between their hunting grounds often see them overhead here too, going where I know not, but the small market town is about 2 miles from my home where there is a river and fish in and Herons are always standing there waiting!
Water is somehow very de-stressing when babbling by.

Thankfully @LukasB they do not have mobile phones🙃
They've gone off leaving me with maybe 1000 bees for next spring how cute is that😆
I'll count them in October and let you know.

PS after 700 or so I become count crazy as they all look the same.

Nice to learn more about bees and pollinators and cute pictures too. heart_eyes 🐝 As mentioned above the fact about the covid situation making bees thrive is really interesting and lovely to hear. No one would say the crisis is a good thing but it's nice to hear about these positive things emerging too amongst all the sad and bad.

Also I think you've ruined coco pops for me for a while @LukasB
