A: Theresa "Tracy" Draco (a Countess) 

Although I wasn't interested in Bond films I did read Ian Flemings books. I know he went through a fake marriage to a Kissy Suzuki or Suzuka but his genuine marriage was to Theresa. She was killed on their wedding day.

Q2 Where is the most easterly point in the UK?

A: Ness point in Lowestoft. We were holidaying in Corton for a long w.e and decided to go and see it. Awful place.

A: In the late 1700's (1797??) The clue for me was MAINLAND Britain. It was the Battle of Fishguard when the French invaded our shores. They didn't last long. Two days and they were defeated. (That showed them!!) PS Sorry @EmilieT

On 23 February 1797, during the French Revolutionary Wars against the countries hostile to the French Revolution, four ships with 1200 French men landed at Carregwastad Point, near Fishguard, Wales, and intended to battle the local Welsh militia and the South Pembrokeshire Yeomeny. News of the landing caused panic in London but, according to the tradiotional story, two days after the landing, the French mistook the red flannel of local Welsh women for the red tunic of the British Infantry and General Tate surrendered to the Welsh militia, declaring it was "unnnecessary to attempt any military operation as this would only cause bloodshed". 

Q4 What colour was the first adhesive postage stamp?

A: Black (The Penny Black)

- incorrect. The Penny Black was first used on a letter on 2 May 1840, and two days later was issued by the General Post Office [GPO].

The correct answer is sepia - with the wording "General Postage - NOT EXCEEDING HALF-AN-OUNCE - one penny", printed by James Chalmers at his printng works in Dundee, Scotalnd, and used ona letter from Chalmers to Lt-Col Moberly, Secretary to the GPO, on 2 October 1839 - the first time a letter with an adhesive stamp had been sent through the post. The sepia adhesive stamp was recognised by the GPO as legitimate pre-payment postage and the letter was delivered without incurring a fine for non-pre-payment. Chalmers later sent other letters with his sepia stamp before the Penny Black was introduced. 

Q5 What is orology?

A: Study of Mountains. (Another funny nursing story to this answer. We were having an exam and the question was Name the science of the Genito Urinary System. I knew this and gave my answer. Urology.

Sadly I misspelt it and wrote Orology. The paper came back with a big red X next to this question and a sarcastic comment from the tutor'. "If you want to study mountains, you are in the wrong profession"

Q6 How many pieces does each player start with in a game of backgammon?

A: Fifteen

Well there you go. Who knew that about the sepia stamp? Always thought it was the penny black.

The two I had difficulty with...

*James Bond's wife. I boxed clever with that regarding the Countess part. I couldn't remember the full title so just put countess

The Battle of Fishguard was hard purely because of the date. However, I thought it was the 22nd-24th February. Simply because my grandson was born on the 22nd February and I once told him he was born on the last day Britain was invaded.   You will notice my post was edited and it was for that question (the year). It was a quiz question a couple of years back....and after posting, two dates were hovering in my brain. 1779 and 1797. Luckily I guessed the correct one.

Glad you enjoyed the quiz @Cleoriff 

I was impressed that you also mentioned Bond`s "supposed" marriages and went for the actual one - and yes she was killed on her wedding day after the wedding.

You also spotted the key word "mainland" in the British invasion question. The surrender sounds comical - with the French thinking Welsh women were British infantry.

The stamp question was the QI-style one. In fact, Chalmers had previously sent samples [which still exist] of his design for an adhesive stamp to the Select Committee which was considering adhesive stamps and which later approved Ronald Hill`s suggestion and the Penny Black and Twopenny Blue stamps.

Just asked my hubby about the stamp question. He said Penny Red. When I told him the right answer and said it was a QI question, he said 'Oh well...who the hell would know that?'

Just remember Ray does quizzes, loves Q.1. and hates being wrong...

According to Stanley Gibbons, the famous stamp dealers/specialists, the Penny Red, using the same plates which printed the Penny Black, was first printed in February 1841 - after the Penny Black and Twopenny Blue... just thought you and Ray might like to know

In fairness to him I had told him I got the Penny Black one wrong...(he had also said Penny Black originally..)

So he answered red only when he knew Penny Black wasn't the right answer. He also hadn't heard of the beige one.
