We've been and watched her do her testing and giving her own insulin. Gobsmacked. We bought her a fitness watch (pink) She set it up herself, downloaded a special app and reminders.

Left her with her mum to go and buy some new goldfish at Dobbies. Pretty well sorted I think.

As you say @jonsie, resilient and learning to take it in her stride. 9 years old.

Amazing really. nerd

I heard from my son last night. Apparently the fitness watch is now all set up with reminders etc and fully paired with her phone.

He also said she has bought a little pack of rhinestones so she can 'customise' the little diabetic equipment bag we bought her. heart_eyes

Onwards and upwards. yahoo

Rhinestones, yes indeed. School awareness too, as the hols end today for many in that age group.
On the topic of caravans from Weather thread, I did notice, as I was en-route to the shop on Saturday: nice house, big bay window, glazed panels around and above the front door... Yet parked right slap-bang in front of these features of the house, a tow caravan, blocking all light 😖
Still, I'll bet the view from the hard stand at Portsalon Caravan Park, when the border Guards relax their watch on the crossing into Donegal, will be worth it 😆

The granddaughter is lucky with her school. Her Mum is the IT manager at the same school which is a relief for them both I think.

Also the teaching assistant in her class is competent at dealing with Type 1 diabetes as there is another child in the class with the same condition.

On the same subject, an interesting theory has emerged after discussion with the nurse practitioner for Diabetes. I'm aware that Type 1 appears to be on the increase for children and certainly over the last year. After all the years of research there is not one single factor scientists have proven which results in Type 1. The pancreas just isn't producing enough insulin.

However, over this last year, they have discovered a link between Covid and Type1 diabetes. The child may not have been diagnosed with Covid but could have had it unknowingly.  Also could have been diagnosed as a carrier or had Covid. The link is there and currently more research is being done on linking the two.

Quite worrying if this is the case.

As for caravans on drives....rofl one of my greatest dislikes when I was a lot younger. However our drive is at the side of the house and wouldn't block my view. Problem is, as we live in a damn cul-de-sac, it would block the view for people in the 5 bungalows which run across the bottom of the road.

So maybe a static caravan somewhere may be a better choice. No chance though, they are far too expensive!

Yes  I've seen people getting out and about. The queue at Primark in Coventry was 200 people long. Stupid.

Nice to see people visiting zoos again though.
