It's because they didn't buy any of the 4g bandwidth to keep their costs down.
Owning the network would obviously give them full access.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.
Please select the post that helped you best and mark as the solution. This helps other members in resolving their issues faster. Thank you.

I think you can get 4G on Virgin Mobile if you're a business customer, but I doubt it has generated much revenue for them. If Liberty Global did buy the business, I would think that it's pretty certain that the O2 logo would disappear. All of Virgin Media's support is outsourced as well, so that might not be great for customers.

I've not used their network but do have most of the home services (TV, BB and home phone).
Generally they are pretty good. Only had one problem which was a pain, but that was due to a hardware fault that took ages to track down (a port splitter in a cabinet had failed).
Anytime I have had an issue they have been good with communicating what they are doing, and compensating for fixing - with the issue above we got almost two whole months free once it was fixed.

Please note, this is not customer services and we cannot access your account. Do not publish personal details (email, phone number, bank account).

Link to our guide on how to contact them can be found here

I have to stick up for Virgin customer service, I called them several times and right up until I ported out there was never a problem (porting was a nightmare), but the staff themselves were helpful and competent, although they all sounded vaguely american.

@Anonymous Virgin's call centres are based in the Philippines, which would probably explain the vague American accents.

slight_smile I had figured something like that, ringing them always made me think of a scene in Slumdog Millionaire, where they are teaching people how to speak with english accents and what happened onEastEnders, you just knew it wasnt natural.

HWL are considering a legal challenge, so I doubt we've heard the last of this saga.
