An article on the Daily Mail online:

This lightning charger was purchased from an official retailer.

It would appear that the "electrician" who reported this to the Mail as a genuine article bought from an EE shop also has questions to answer! Smiley Frustrated

Knowing the fraudulent claims made these days the paper should have checked the parts were genuine.

Well spotted Adam, as a non-Apple user I wouldn't know the difference! Shocked

@perksie

The charger is official but that is not the part in question.

I think deception is  on both parties the title of the article is misleading and the owner of the lead witholding the truth.

I am sure apple will get to the bottom of it.

P.s. I was reading the comments and then double checked the lead.

These non-genuine accessories cause a multitude of problems and not just for iphones. All manufacturers face the same problem. Genuine products only for me now.

I admit I used to buy the cheap products on eBay or something if the cable broke, but I was naive about it and didn't think it would make any difference.  When I became more aware of issues with the non-official products and the dangers of them, I stick to official products now.

100% agree jonsie.

I once bought a lightening cord from a £1 shop then thought better of it and binned it.

I couldn't agree more, to own an expensive phone and then use cheap spares seems a bit silly!

Beggars belief but there are some that would have you believe there's nothing wrong with them Shocked

Samsung have already said that their phones will come with the inbuilt ability to detect non standard, chargers, cables, batteries etc in the future and will also run an approval programme for 3rd party supplies to get a compliance cert - Can't come soon enough for me as these cheap copies seem to be getting worse !!
