Headline: E-readers 'damage sleep and health,' doctors warn

Excerpt from the Link "

you curl up under the duvet with an e-book for a bedtime read then you are damaging your sleep and maybe your health, US doctors have warned.

A team from Harvard Medical School compared reading paper books and light-emitting e-readers before sleep.

They found it took longer to nod off with an e-reader, which led to poorer quality sleep and being more tired the next morning."

My thoughts :

My daughter uses a Kobo e reader and has not mentioned any problems , but I will mention this piece to her.

Im wondering if the light emitting from these are different to Tablets / iPads as I've not had similar issues either.

I was reading my Kindle before I went to sleep last night and I was asleep as soon as I put it down!  I've got the Paperwhite and had the screen turned down.  I don't think I could read at night with my iPad though.

@Anonymous You always find interesting articles. Two comments come immediately to mind. The first is that I very much doubt if the reasons for low quality sleep can be so clearly isolated and defined as to reach such a conclusion. The second is to ask who precisely was funding the research in question?
Overall I can say with some justification that irrespective of the medium used a very high proportion of the literature on offer nowadays is an effective cure for insomnia.

I am an avid reader and honestly thought a Kindle would be an ideal gift for me.

Problem is I don't like them much (it must be an age thing Rolleys)

I much prefer the feel (and smell) of new books... Hardcover, Paperbacks it doesn't matter which.

It would save me so much trouble if only I could take to the Kindle. When I travel to Spain for instance my case would be so much lighter Smiley Very Happy

Just download the Kindle app on your tablet......

I didn't think I'd like a Kindle but I love it now.  It's so much easier to take on holiday rather than a stack of books!

I fear so @Anonymous  Everyone extols the virtues of e-readers....I know how good they are ....but there is nothing like the smell, feel and look of a new book (in my opinion) Happy Dance
