Headline: E-readers 'damage sleep and health,' doctors warn

Excerpt from the Link "

you curl up under the duvet with an e-book for a bedtime read then you are damaging your sleep and maybe your health, US doctors have warned.

A team from Harvard Medical School compared reading paper books and light-emitting e-readers before sleep.

They found it took longer to nod off with an e-reader, which led to poorer quality sleep and being more tired the next morning."

My thoughts :

My daughter uses a Kobo e reader and has not mentioned any problems , but I will mention this piece to her.

Im wondering if the light emitting from these are different to Tablets / iPads as I've not had similar issues either.

Surely not you Denise!   Confused

I fear so @Anonymous  Everyone extols the virtues of e-readers....I know how good they are ....but there is nothing like the smell, feel and look of a new book (in my opinion) Happy Dance

I am sure you are right ma'am.  But those of us who are not NHS pensioners enjoying the rich rewards of a highly paid career often find that borrowed library books seldom smell, feel or look quite so attractive as the pristine copies from the shelves of Waterstones.  On the other hand I don't really enjoy the pictures on my basic black and white Kindle nearly as much as I do in the printed versions whether borrowed or bought.

What an absolute load of claptrap. Reading is educational and reading before sleeping is without doubt the best time for absorbing information. Getting up to pee 3-4 times a night however....

Hmmmm - doesn't the getting up give you 3 or 4 more opportunities to read a few more paragraphs? @jonsie   Gotta make the best of every situation!!!

While we are on the subject I thought I'd share with you a Latin inscription that I understand was found on a large vase unearthed in a Roman ruin. The Latin was "ITI SAPIS POTANDA BIGONE"  - maybe the Roman gent who owned the vase had found a solution to the nocturnal problem you mentioned.
