I saw this today and wondered....
Should we be worried or not? Is Messenger any more invasive than FB itself?
Or should we ignore this and just shrug it off as technological progress?
PS: Just reporting here, so please don't shoot the Messenger.....:smileywink:

I did raise an eyebrow when FB decided a person has to have messenger downloaded to be able to use the messaging facility.
To this day I've not downloaded it.
But that's primarily because I use the American FB app called 'Paper' which does not need the messenger app downloaded.

To be honest as lots if apps want access to info I don't think it's anything new. I don't keep any sensitive personal info that could be used anyway.

If i want to keep in touch with friends i use my telephone and i talk to them. It is quite innovative you know, so 21st Century.
Facebook have got too big and no longer (if they ever did) listen to their customers but then again it is broadly free.

I actually downloaded this whilst I was away. Two of my family members use it so I thought ..oh why not?
I have to admit to only using it twice to send photos....:smileywink:
I thought people would come back and say 'Use whatsapp' etc. It was interesting to hear the newsreader saying that FB have recently been in talks to buy Whatapp?.....

EDIT: I pondered whether this should this have gone into the App section of forum or News?
Perhaps @Toby would advise?
As its not about an O2 app Cleo, we can leave it here
