Facebook Messenger App

I saw this today and wondered....

Should we be worried or not? Is Messenger any more invasive than FB itself?

Or should we ignore this and just shrug it off as technological progress?

PS: Just reporting here, so please don't shoot the Messenger.....:smileywink:

If you must use FB, the easiest way to avoid the app is to just use FB through your web browser.

Yes @Cleoriff you can uninstall the app and just use FB through your browser. I don't use FB all that often, and wouldn't even think of installing the app, but I'm sure you'll still be able to send messages through the browser.

This isn't a problem with the FaceBook Messenger app as it requires no more access to your device than other apps like SnapChat or Viber, and iOS only asks for your permission whenever the app actually needs to access something for the first time.

The problem is actually with Android and its necessity to approve ALL the permissions for the app before you even download it. As it states in the article I've posted, Facebook is the victim of Google's decision in June 2014 to lump related permissions together and simplify their descriptions.

Is it worth pointing out that BlackBerry 10 isn't affected by any of this and we can still open messages in the Facebook app without any workaround?

This thread makes for interesting reading after the announcement that WhatsApp will be sharing data with Facebook in the US only, but I'm sure it won't be long till we get it forced upon us.

The only reason this has come of interest to me is that now I'm on Android, no iMessage 🤬 so I've been looking into others.
I saw Edward Snowdon stating he hadn't been killed whilst Using Signal , which made me laugh.
Anyone else use it?
